Paypal adalah salah satu cara pembayaran untuk transaksi online. Pada mulanya Paypal digunakan oleh ebay sebagai perantara pembayaran lelang online mereka. Karena semakin banyak yang menggunakan Paypal dalam transaksi lelangnya, maka pada 2002 ebay mengakuisisi Paypal sebesar US$ 1,5 milyar.
Syarat utama untuk membuat account Paypal :

Langkah-langkah membuat account Paypal :
- Masuk ke website Paypal
- Klik Sign Up (ada di sebelah kanan atas)
- Pilih Premier. Klik tombol Get Started
- Lengkapi data-data yang ada dengan sebenar-benarnya. Sesuaikan dengan yang ada di kartu identitas (misal: SIM)
- Di bagian bawah, anda diwajibkan mengisikan nomer Credit Card, tanggal berakhir, dan CSC (3 digit nomer yang ada di belakang Credit Card)
- Cara penulisan nomer telpon yang benar, misal: 0311234566 atau 08123456789
- Setelah selesai, tekan tombol yang terletak dibawah. Anda akan menerima email konfirmasi bahwa anda telah mendaftar dan untuk mengaktifkan account PayPal, buka email dari PayPal tersebut dan klik link konfirmasi yang terdapat didalamnya, untuk konfirmasi bahwa anda adalah pemilik email tersebut.
- Account Paypal anda akan berstatus “belum diverifikasi”. Untuk melakukan verifikasi, anda harus memasukkan 4 digit nomer yang ada di tagihan kartu kredit anda – di depan tulisan PAYPAL (nanti ada tagihan sebesar $ 1.95 dari Paypal yang akan dikembalikan setelah proses verifikasi selesai). Bagi pengguna BCA bisa lihat langsung (setelah kira-kira 2 hari) melalui klikbca.
- Untuk menghilangkan status “limited” anda harus upload scan kartu identitas. Bisa berupa SIM, KTP, Passport, bukti pembelian reksa dana, dsb.
- Selamat! Anda bisa mulai menggunakan Paypal untuk membeli atau menjual barang secara online. Meski account Paypal anda belum ada isinya alias masih NOL Dollar, anda tetap bisa menggunakannya misal untuk beli barang atau bayar registrasi software. Nantinya akan dipotong langsung dari kartu kredit anda dan nilainya dikonversi ke rupiah.
